Don't quit. There is a big difference between quitting and changing, however. I believe that when God sees someone who does not quit, He looks down and says, "There is someone I can use." It urges us not to become weary, assuring us that we will - not might, will - reap a harvest of if we do not give up. God does not quit. It is impossible for him to do so. In Philippians 1:6 (NIV) the Apostle Paul writes about "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." In Luke 9:62, Jesus said, "No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." If we are not careful, we will allow the past to hold us. The more we look backward, the less we are able to look forward. The past is not the only determining factor of what God can do for us today. That is the beauty of the Christian life. Even when we fail, we can ask for forgiveness and be totally cleansed of and released from our past actions. Whatever hold the past may have on us can be broken. It is never God who holds us back. We hold ourselves back by allowing the past to keep us from living to the fullest in the present and future. In Hawaii, we have a custom of giving leis to one another as an act of hospitality, honor and friendship. A lei is usually made up of flowers strung together and draped around a person's neck. We give leis to say, "Thank you," and we give leis to say, "Goodbye." I love the fragrant flowers of Hawaii. The pikake, the plumeria, the white ginger and the pua kenikeni are my favorites. These beautiful flowers are so pungent that everywhere I turn, the wafting fragrance adds a sense of Polynesian aloha to everything I experience. When I wear one of these leis, every person I meet smells wonderful! It does not matter whether the person is tall or short, happy or sad, coming to me with a complaint or a compliment, they all smell wonderful to me!
