The story is told of a Scotsman who was an extremely hard worker. He not only held himself to a high standard but set the same for those who were under him. During one project where he was setting seemingly impossible deadlines for his men, a coworker needled him, saying, "Hey, Scotty! Don't you know that Rome wasn't built in a day?" "Yes, I read about that," the Scotsman replied. "That's because I wasn't the foreman on that job!" Do you accept the normal limitations that stop everyone else? This is my version of the story: Everybody in the school knew that whoever achieved the best grade on the upcoming final exam would be offered the ultimate dream "cut-off" accounting grade to stay in the program automatically. Student Ambisyoso Kha-ayo wanted the grade so badly that he couldn't sleep at night. His desperate situation is close to impossible of getting the cut-off, meaning he's got to get a perfect score and still won't reach the "cut-off" and this was his golden opportunity! Nothing must stand in his way. He was determined to correctly answer every question on the test. On the day of the final, Ambisyoso was still studying so intently that when he glanced at his watch, he realized he was 15 minutes late for the test! He quickly collected his books; then he ran to class and into the room. If we refuse to change, we're in trouble. If we think we can't change, we won't have the faith to change, even if it is possible. Jesus said, "According to your faith will it be done to you." (Matt. 9:29, NIV). If I don't have the faith that I can change or that my situation can change, then it won't. On the other hand, if I believe I can change - I can follow Jesus, I can do better in my marriage, God can use me - then the Lord can say, "Now you've got the faith." A good attitude releases the Lord to do His work. If I say I can't, then I won't have the faith to cooperate with God's attempts to bring wholeness and healing to my life.
