Normal. Ordinary. Boring! How do I succeed? What do I do?
You've heard it said that we should never change a proven success formula. Generally speaking, I agree with that statement. But sometimes there is a time and place for a change of recipe in almost any area of business. For example, potato chips are an American tradition, a very successful sales item. That fact didn't keep Procter and Gamble a few years ago from launching "Pringles," a product that defied tradition and opened up a whole new market.
On occasion the ingredient for success is the surprise element. For example, Coach Tom Landry of the Dallas Cowboys is well-known for having surprise for his opponent in an especially big game. He is well aware that the opponent will be prepared for the standard stuff, so he often catches them off guard with his innovations.
What about you? Think it through carefully, then if the situation warrants, change the recipe. Add the special ingredients of optimism, enthusiasm, courtesy, and positive thinking. Your innovation could be the surprise that will catch your competition off guard - give you the winning edge!
As you start your day, ponder and complete this.
